“Hi. My name is Susan and I am a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) for Cardio-Thoracic Service at Missouri Baptist Medical Center. I have been a registered nurse for 25 years and the type of job that I do is very physically demanding. I was having problems with my neck, back, posture and hips when I heard about Pilates. I started the Pilates program with Maureen in 2002 and during the next 6 years saw a tremendous improvement in my posture, neck, back shoulder and hip pain. I also was physically better able to stand for long periods of time without pain. I am an avid hiker and exercise 5 to 6 days a week. With the breathing and core techniques that I was able to learn in Pilates, I am able to hike longer and have increased my endurance during cardio workouts.
This year I had to have a bunionectomy to my left foot, and bilateral carpel tunnel releases to my hands. I was out of work and not able to exercise for about 2 months. During my time off, I began to fall back into my bad posture routines, and started to have an increase in the pain I had before starting Pilates. For me, I have found pilates to be a great way to stay flexible, increase my core strength, and it has been a great asset to my overall health and well being. I highly recommend Pilates for anyone who wants to increase their core strength and endurance.”
